THE POOR HAVE NO FAITH

The poor have no faith

Easter Sunday. In Vilar de Perdizes, a few kilometers away from Montalegre, António Fontes Priest may be doing one of last eastern visits. In the past, people used to receiv the cross of Christ with street filled with carpets of flowers, but now only a few open their homes to kiss the cross. Nearby, in Pedrário, the beautiful church of Romannesque style remains closed. In this village, the cross of Christ only comes every two years. Albina Teixeira doesn't go to church, the messe is celebrated in the nearby village of Sarraquinhos. She has already lost the count of the years that she lived and she has almost lost the faith...

PARTY IN THE VILLAGE!

OUR LADY OF APARECIDA Torno-Lousada

They may forbid the people from taking the TGV, from setting foot on the golf courses, from hearing Sokolov at the Casa da Música (Hall of Music, at Oporto) or from taking a ride on a luxury voyage on the Douro river; but nobody can ban the people from going to mass, from praying the Our Lady of Aparecida, or from seeing the band marching, in front of the church’s door. Despite the wax heads, legs and bowels offered to the saint, the main reason for the people’s trip here, is to see seventy men carrying a 20 meters litter, the worlds largest — they say — worthy to figure in the Guinness book of records! All in all, no matter what they think or what they say, even with no money, the people is still entitled to its own ridiculous...
